South Ward District 2 Committee Person Jenna Figueroa Kettenburg and the Latino Merchants Association called on volunteers in the city to help with a clean up of the South Ward's Lamberton, Centre, Furman and Federal Streets. We are humbled by the showing. Community leaders and residents from all over the city and neighboring Townships showed up to show their support. We thank everyone for coming out and getting dirty! This is what community and togetherness is about. Together we are great! Together we are strong! Together we will set the example and bring our city back up to its full potential. Our common goal is to change the mentality and develop a care for the city we live in. Pa'lante!
The Latino Merchants Association of NJ along with the Guatemalan Civic Association along with Latino Pride got together together today at 375 Morris Ave in Trenton to have a food drive for local Latino families in need. We want to thank contributions from Family Supermarket, the Rosario's, A Better Way, Infinity, and many more, including individual contributions. These and more enabled us to give over 300 boxes of groceries to families who have been identified in need. Please contribute money or food and continue to follow our efforts to identify families in need.
In light of the destruction and devastation that occurred last Sunday in our Downtown Trenton, the Latino Merchants Association would like to say that we are hopelessly disappointed that in approximately 100 store fronts in the city of Trenton, approximately 60 were Latino owned businesses. The LMA stands with our Black communities across America in that we are united in being minorities and we understand the anger and angst felt by the Black communities. We are saddened however, being that we are constant givers to our communities and we feel targeted. Please, we plead for equality and justice, but looting the local black and brown businesses of the communities that house all of us is not the answer. We implore the black communities to reach out to us and we will support yours and America's cause that we stand with you against inequality, police brutality and injustice. Our business stand with our community.
We would like to thanks Family Supermarket for their donation. We will be giving out for the less fortunate at our community. Feel free to donate, and once again thank you for your generosity.
The Latino Merchant Association gave out another 200 plus meals today at 105 E. Hanover St in Trenton. The meals were provided by Sabor Latino Bar & Restaurant. Each person received a hot meal consisting of rice, chicken and potato salad including a bottle of water, mask, utensils and US Census information.
Our 2nd installment of 3000 meals and masks was another success. Thank you to all of our supporters, donors and those spreading the word. Also, thank you to Mayor Reed Gusciora and Councilman Joseph Harrison who both showed up today to give a helping hand.
